OPENER REPAIR
Garage Door Opener Repair in Torrance & the South Bay
An opener problem and a door problem can look identical from inside the car — the door just won’t go up — which is why the first thing we do on an opener call is figure out which system is actually at fault. If the door moves smoothly when disconnected and lifted by hand, the door itself is fine and the issue is almost always in the opener: the motor, the drive mechanism, the logic board, the sensors, or the remotes talking to it. We work on chain drive, belt drive, and screw drive openers across all the common residential brands, whether that’s a unit that’s a few years old or one that’s original to a much older house.
The most common opener calls we get fall into a few categories. First, safety sensor issues — the two small eyes near the floor on each side of the track have to be precisely aligned and unobstructed, and even a slightly bumped bracket or a spider web across the beam can make the opener refuse to close or reverse partway down. Second, remote and keypad problems, which range from a dead battery to a remote that’s lost its programming after a power outage — we can usually reprogram existing remotes on the spot rather than replacing them. Third, drive and motor issues, where the motor runs but the trolley isn’t moving, usually from a stripped gear, a snapped belt, or a disconnected carriage — these need the drive mechanism itself repaired or replaced.
Modern openers also handle rolling codes, Wi-Fi connectivity, and battery backup for power outages, and when one of those systems glitches it can look like a full opener failure even though the motor is fine. We diagnose the actual point of failure before recommending a repair or a full opener replacement, so you’re not paying for a new unit when a $40 part would have fixed it — and not patching an opener that’s genuinely at the end of its life either.
If the opener checks out fine but the door itself is heavy, off track, or noisy, that’s more likely a door repair issue, and a struggling opener paired with a door that won’t hold its position by hand usually points to a worn spring.
